Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who was on ground to show solidarity with fellow senator, Adams Oshiomhole, and to witness the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State in which a fellow senator, Monday Okpebholo, was also a candidate, has congratulated the former governor for triumphing over his estranged godson and successor, Governor Godwin Obaseki......See Full Story>>.....See Full Story>>
Reacting to the victory of Senator Monday Okpebholo at the keenly contested election, Akpabio mocked the outgoing governor, congratulating Senator Oshiomhole “for finally seeing the back of Obaseki”. He said ouster of Obaseki had liberated Edo people.
The visibly elated former governor of Akwa Ibom State, who appreciated all the political leaders and stakeholders for their immense support, particularly congratulated the reinstated deputy governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, saying that he would be the one to hand over to Okpebholo.
Akpabio said the Edo election was an indication of what would happen in Ondo State in the next few weeks, and a reflection of the confidence that Nigerians have continued to express in President Bola Tinubu and urged them to be patient with him.
According to him, “For me, I believe that this is a turning point in the politics of Edo State. The will of God has been done today. I regard this day as a day of liberation. I believe strongly that God’s will has been done today in Edo State. And I also want you to know that the will of God for people is nothing but progress, happiness, joy and prosperity.
“I believe strongly that the election of Edo though very tense at the beginning, the outcome is a reflection of the confidence that Nigerians have continued to express in President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the administration, yes, met a mess on the ground, but they are doing their best to see how they can turn around the fortunes of Nigerians. I want to tell you to remain patient and continue to support the president, support his administration.
“I know that like what has happened in Edo now is a clarification of what will happen in Ondo in the next few months by the grace of God.
“I want to congratulate my brother, Senator Okpebholo, and congratulate the comrade governor, and comrade senator, for finally seeing the back of Obaseki. I know it was a worrisome thing for him….and most especially, the deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, who may be the one to hand over to you (Okpebholo).
