Presenting the campaign materials, Chief Emami emphasize the importance of active campaigns by the candidates to secure votes from the electorates.
While expressing concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, Chief Emami noted that the current administration may allegedly seek to manipulate election results rather than conduct a fair and transparent voting exercise .
He said that free and fair elections is a cornerstone of democratic governance at all levels, from local government to the federal level.
Highlighting the significance of local government autonomy, Chief Emami argued that effective governance must begin at the grassroot level and extend upward through the tiers of government.
Chief Emami criticized alleged manipulation of Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DESIEC), he warned against potential misuse of power if state police were to be established without adequate checks and balances.
Chief Emami called for powers to be vested on the local governments through it’s autonomy, he asserted that local elections are essential for fostering democratic practices and ensuring accountability in governance.
He stressed the importance of upholding the principles of democracy and called for measures to safeguard the electoral process against undue influence and manipulation.
Accordng to Chief Emami, “as regards local government election, what I believe is that all the candidates must go and campaign because if you don’t go out to campaign, nobody will vote for you.
“The initial fear of my people was that Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori does not want to conduct election but to write results, but elections have been scheduled for July 13, 2024. If there’s going to be free and fair elections, I am very confident that our candidates are going to win. We must put everything in place to ensure that there is elections because whenever you are going to talk about governance, it must start from the local government to State and from State to Federal government level.
“This is why a lot of us are yearning for local government autonomy. Because if someone can wake up and tell you that he is strongly advocating for State Police and you have just DESIEC at your disposal and you are not using it properly. that means tomorrow if I have political issues with the governor, he will come after me with his police.
“So if you are actually yearning for State police then you must ensure that there is election at the local government level.”
Speaking shortly after he received the campaign materials, Prince Francis Yonwuren, APC chairmanship candidate for Warri South L. G. A. assured his followers that APC is going to win the election.
He said, “I want to tell my people in Warri South Local Government Area that by the grace of God, if I am elected I will not disappoint them. If I am elected that means prosperity and overall development have come to the Local Government. I will operate an efficient, transparent and open door administration and we shall transform Warri into a mega city.”
Campaign materials presented included customized faze caps, T-shirts, flags among others.
