In a recent statement, Serah Ibrahim addressed allegations made by Victoria Oniru regarding her refusal to accept a 100 million naira compensation from the Lagos State Government for victims of the Lekki Toll Gate incident. Ibrahim expressed her disappointment over the portrayal of events, stating that misinformation has fueled unnecessary conflict.

Ibrahim recounted that she had been contacted multiple times by government officials, who sought to make amends following the tragic events of October 20, 2020. After consulting with her lawyers, she agreed to attend a meeting where a government representative offered a financial settlement. Despite initial reluctance, Ibrahim ultimately declined the offer, advocating instead for the provision of prosthetics for victims who suffered amputations during the incident.

After speaking with a trusted associate, Ibrahim learned that other victims were distressed about the compensation, feeling that their suffering warranted financial support. In response, she attempted to facilitate a solution that would ensure the funds were disbursed directly to those affected, rather than taking personal responsibility for the funds.

Ibrahim emphasized her commitment to transparency and accountability, stating that any assistance should directly benefit the victims rather than be seen as a means to silence their voices. She firmly asserted that she did not receive any part of the offered compensation and called for proper acknowledgment of the victims’ experiences.
