Maxwell Opara, a human rights activist and attorney based in Abuja, has taken President Bola Tinubu to court for allegedly extending the term of Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The attorney requested that the Federal High Court in Abuja prevent Egbetokun from impersonating the IGP.
According to Opara, Egbetokun will be 60 on September 4, 2024, and cannot continue to serve as IGP.
Remembers that Force spokeswoman Muyiwa Adejobi reiterated on Friday that Tinubu has not extended the tenure of the IGP in the wake of the controversies surrounding the position.
Rather, he added, the President acquiesced to the law as needed to govern the office’s duration.
However, Opara requested that the court rule that an appointment that has been canceled by operation of law cannot be reinstated retrospectively by a later modified statute.
The suit hearing has not yet been scheduled.
